Association “Belarus Football Federation” was founded in 1989. In 1992 ABFF joined UEFA and in 1993 – FIFA. Mr. Henadz Niavyhlas is the President of the Association “Belarus Football Federation”.
In the Soviet times FC Dinamo Minsk represented Belarusian football in the top league of USSR Championship. The team had different names such as Spartak (1954-1959) and Belarus (1960-1962). For the first time Dinamo Minsk participated in USSR Championship (the top league) in 1941. The club had played in the elite division with breaks up to the collapse of USSR. The most successful seasons for the leader of Belarusian football were 1982 (winner), 1954, 1963 and 1983 (3rd place). In 1965 and 1987 Dinamo Minsk was the finalist of USSR Cup.
The players of Dinamo Minsk played for the national team of USSR: Eduard Malofeev, Igor Remin, Ivan Savostikov, Sergei Borovskiy, Sergei Aleynikov, Andrei Zygmantovich, Georgiy Kondratyev, Victor Yanushevich, Igor Gurinovich, Victor Shishkin, Sergei Gotsmanov, Yury Kurnenin, Yury Pudyshev. In FIFA World Cup finals Eduard Malofeev (1966), Sergei Borovskiy (1982), Sergei Aleynikov (1986, 1990), and Andrei Zygmantovich (1990) played for the National Team of USSR.
The first Championship of Belarus was held in 1992. 19 editions of the championship has been played. The winners are as follows:

On the 20th of October 1992 the National Team of Belarus played its first official match against Ukraine (1:1) in Minsk. Up to now the National Team has played 133 matches (+37=34 – 62, goals 164 – 205) among them:

UEFA European Championship Qualifiers: 38 matches (+8=6 – 24, goals 33 – 66).

In 1983 for the first time Belarusian club played in UEFA club competitions. FC Dinamo Minsk qualified to UEFA European champions Cup 1983/84 as the winner of USSR championship 1982 and reached a quarterfinal by defeating Swiss Grasshopper-Club Zürich (1:0, 2:2), Hungarian Raba ETO FC (6:3, 3:1). In the quarterfinal our club was defeated by Romanian Dinamo Bucharest (1:1, 0:1). In Soviet times Dinamo Minsk reached quarterfinals of all three UEFA club competitions!
For the first time the clubs of independence Belarus participated in UEFA club competitions in 1993. Dinamo Minsk played in UEFA European champions Cup and Neman Grodno – in UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup. The highest achievement of Belarusian clubs is the participation in UEFA Champions League 2008/09 group stage that is the highlight of FC BATE Borisov – the leader of Belarusian football in XXI century. In season 2009/10 BATE Borisov reached UEFA Europe League group stage.
Many Belarusian players have been playing for different foreign clubs. The most successful players are: Aleksandr Khatskevich and Valentin Belkevich (FC Dinamo Kiev), Sergei Gurenko (FC Lokomotiv Moscow, FC Roma, FC Real Zaragoza), Vasili Baranov (FC Spartak Moscow), Vitaly Kutuzov (FC Milan, FC Sampdoria, FC Sporting), Aleksandr Hleb (FC Stuttgart, FC Arsenal, FC Barcelona). Among the first ones we can remember Sergei Aleinokov (FC Juventus), Andrei Zygmantovich (FC Racing, FC Groningen), and Aleksand Metlitski (FC Rapid and FC LASK Linz).
